Creating Teamwork and Synergy - You will Move Faster Forward Than If You Do It Individually!

Do you know the power of teamwork and synergy? Well, teamwork and creating synergy between the different members of the team is important if you want to be successful. No one is an island!! And no one can live as an island too!!!

The Tortoise and Hare story still hasn't ended yet. This is the final part of all the 4-part series of the story. If you wish to read the beginning 3 parts of the story, click the links at the bottom of this article story.

teamwork and synergy The hare and the tortoise, by this time, had become pretty good friends and they did some thinking together. They realize that if they put together their strengths and work as a team, they could achieve far more than what they did individually and against each others. That’ll create synergy – but what does synergy actually mean?

Synergy means the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The relationship which the parts have to each other is a part in and of itself - the most empowering, unifying and exciting part. It’s compensating one’s weakness with another’s strengths, and both complimenting each other.

The essence of synergy is to value differences - to respect them, to build on strengths, and to compensate for weaknesses. The way to achieve synergy is through the creative process, which is terrifying, because you never know where the creative process will lead you!!

So, the hare and the tortoise want to test the theory. Both realized that the last race could have been run much better. So they decided to do the last race again, but to run as a team this time.

They started off, and this time the hare carried the tortoise till the riverbank. There, the tortoise took over and swam across with the hare on his back.

On the opposite bank, the hare again carried the tortoise and they reached the finishing line together. They both felt a greater sense of satisfaction than they'd felt earlier.

Moral of the story:

It's good to be individually brilliant and to have strong core competencies; but unless you're able to work in a team and harness each other's core competencies, you'll always perform below par because there will always be situations at which you'll do poorly and someone else does well.

Teamwork is mainly about SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP, letting the person with the relevant core competency for a situation take leadership. Two head is better than one, and a team is like a body, everyone has their own strengths and weakness, and everyone can potentially compliment each others.

You cannot have a proper functioned body without the hands, legs, body, head, etc, and every part of this body has different roles. To create a successful organization, we need all this parts, and strengths. Win-Win situation is the best for everyone!!

Do you want to win? Then, create the win-win situation, and you will move faster forward than if you do it individually.

A favorite quote from Habit 4 Think Win-Win of "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Steven Covey

"Win-Win is a frame of mind that CONSTANTLY SEEKS MUTUAL BENEFIT in all human interactions. Win-Win means that agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying."

Tortoise and Hare Story (Part 2): Fast and Consistent will Always Beat the Slow and Steady.
