Look at the Bigger Picture: Life Itself is a Jigsaw Puzzle, do We Look at just a Piece of Puzzle or the Bigger Picture?
Many of times, we fail to look at the BIGGER PICTURE; life is as if the JIGSAW PUZZLE and we are only pieces by pieces of it one at a time.
At different times and different perspectives, we tend to see things from different angles, which sometimes confuse us, as we fail to step out of our current situations and look at above how these different pieces of life puzzle links to each others. This is what the parable of blind men and an elephant taught us. There were four blind men who came across an elephant. They decided to feel the elephant to determine what sort of creature it was and how the creature should looked like! One blind man felt the back leg of the elephant. He said, "An elephant is like a tree." The second blind man felt the trunk. He said, "An elephant is like a snake." The third blind man felt the tail. He said, "An elephant is like a rope." The fourth blind man was afraid. He didn’t feel the elephant at all. The three blind men argued for a long time about what an elephant was and based on their own personal experience and each was right. Each person had different experiences in a somewhat different way. There was no right and no wrong in each of the analysis. If the fourth blind man, who had no real experience with the elephant, joined the argument, lied and said that when he felt the elephant it was a large furry beast with sharp fangs and a drooling mouth, the issue would be greatly confused. How would the blind men knew what to believe and what not to believe? So the morale of the story:
1) As a human being, we tend to look at each issue at different angles, and different angles will provide different observations. There is NO RIGHT AND NO WRONG in each of the analysis – it’s just a matter of different perspectives of looking at the SAME issue. This leads to different school of thought about the exact same things. 2) This, usually, lead to arguments and disagreements, because each of us believe that our perspectives are the most correct, and we refuse to accept others’ opinion. 3) It’s usually so frustrating, too many people offering their different opinions, and everyone think they are right!!! 4) It’s usually WISE to step out from the situations, and look at it objectivity. I’m not saying it’s easy. In fact, it’s probably the hardest step we have to do. If we could step out and look at the bigger picture, e.g. the 3 blind men consolidating their observation, putting the pieces of jigsaw puzzles together, they probably found out exactly how an elephant should look like!! 5) Therefore, the next time you are in a confusion stages and felt the frustration of handling different opinions about the same issues, mentally STEP OUT of the situations. Look at the situation as THIRD PERSON and OBJECTIVITELY. Write down all the different opinions and thoughts and draw a mental map of how those different thoughts links up together. LOOK AT IT FROM BIGGER PICTURE. Piece the jigsaw together slowly. You may even FOUND OUT about the 4th blind man, who is too afraid to experience and never takes the risk to experience but make up horrible untrue story which create more confusion than it’s already is! 6) It’s important to remove the emotional involvement for a moment, to be able to rationally analyze the situation. 7) It’s amazing when you remove yourself from the situation you are currently at, and look at at the bigger picture, the current problem may seem insignificant. And you’ll discover that the elephant is not a furry beast as you have first imagined it is.
So there you go, don’t be scare when you faces the pieces of puzzles in your life, take joy in uncover the mystery of the puzzles life presented you, and remember there is always explanations for it, when you willing step out and look at the bigger picture.
