Achieve your Dream - Did You Let Someone Steal Your Dream? Or Are You Still Living Up to it Today?

Planning to achieve your dream drives actions. When Martin Luther King Jr. gave his impassioned "I have a dream" speech that sizzling day in Washington in 1963 of his desire for a future where blacks and whites live as equal, he had no idea that the speech changed the world. The effect lasted till today.

But more often than not, sometimes we allow someone, whether in the good or bad intention to steal our dream. We fail to defend our dream….

achieve your dream

I was reading Chicken Soup for the Soul and was impressed with a story in the book. It’s entitled – FOLLOW YOUR DREAM. So I decided, probably I borrowed this story from the book and shares the story with the rest of folks.

The story was about...

A young boy called Monty Roberts, the son of an itinerant horse trainer who would go from stable to stable, race track to race track, farm to farm and ranch to ranch, training horses. As the results, the boy’s high school career was continuously interrupted. When he was a senior in high school, he was asked to write a paper about what he wanted to be when he grew up.

That night, he poured his heart into the papers and wrote a seven pages paper, describing his dream in great details, and he even drew a diagram of 200-acre ranch, showing the location of all the buildings, the stables and the tracks. He even drew a detailed floor plan for a 4000 square foot house which would sit on the 200-acre dream ranch. He handed in the paper the next day. But two days later, he received a LARGE RED F with a note from the teacher 'see me after class'. So he did. He asked why he got a F.

The teacher explained “You have UNREALISTIC DREAM for a young boy like you. You have no money, and you come from itinerant family, have no resources. Owing a ranch requires lots of money. You have to buy the land, you have to pay for the original breeding stock and later, you’ll have to pay for large stud fees. There is no way you can ever do it!" And the teacher added "If you rewrite a more realistic dream, I’ll reconsider your grading".

The boy went home and thought about it long and hard. He asked his father what he should do. His father encouraged him and let him made his own decision. So, after sitting with it for a week, finally he came to see the teacher and stated "YOU CAN KEEP YOUR F AND I’LL KEEP MY DREAM". Today he is the proud owner of the 200-acre ranch.

He successful achieved his dream. The best part of the story – the same schoolteacher had come to visit him and brought 30 kids to camp out in his ranch for a week. When the teacher was leaving, he said “Look Monty, I can tell you this now. When I was your schoolteacher, I was something of DREAM STEALER. During those years, I stole lots of kids’ dreams; fortunately you have enough gumption NOT to give up yours”.

Should Monty has let the teacher to steal his dream for the price of “A” in his paper, then we will never see the Monty today whom the owner of the 200-acre ranch.

ACHIEVE YOUR DREAM. DON’T LET ANYONE STEAL YOUR DREAM, FOLLOW YOUR HEART NO MATTER WHAT!

1) Stand firm and believe in your dream. Achieve your dream and don’t let anyone steal your dream.

2) People may have good intention or they may have bad intention. They laugh at you for your unrealistic dream, but don’t let that stop you from living your dream.

3) Your dream is yours and no one can take away that from your unless you allowed it to.

4) Use your profession and position to encourage and NOT to destroy. If you are ever in the teacher professional, you are in the best position to encourage and influence the school kids to live up to their dream.

Quote of the day:

"The greatest dreams are always unrealistic." - Will Smith
